Obituary for Newry Maxine Forney

Mrs. Newry Maxine "Max" Atkins Miles Forney, made her transition on, November 1, 2015. She was born in Weirton, W. Virginia, on July 11, 1938, to the union of Grady and Delphrine Woodard Atkins, Sr., the eldest of four children. Maxine met and married Frederick E. Miles, in Wheeling, W. Virginia, in 1956, and to this union, three children were born, Patrice "Trecie" LaDel Miles Littleton, Brett Eugene Miles, Sr., and Michelle "Micki" Dorray Miles. Maxine and her children relocated to Toledo, Ohio, in 1969, and worked for several firms and organizations, one of which was Toledo Edison, where she retired after working 28 years. Maxine united with Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and was a member for 17 years. In 1981, she united with Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful, active and loyal member for 34 yeas, until her passing. Maxine will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and her church, for her famous Peach Cobblers and Sweet Potato Pies. Maxine was preceded in death by father, Grady Atkins, Sr., brother, Grady Atkins, Jr.,sisters, Beverly and Barbara Atkins, and Wilma Kelley; grandson, Christopher Marlon Stanford; maternal and paternal grandparents, She leaves to cherish her memory, mother, Delphrine Woodard White (97 yrs old), three children, Patrice L. (Juan) Miles-Littleton, Brett E. Miles, Sr., and Michelle D. Miles, all of Toledo, Ohio; brother, Robert (Blanche) Kelley, Sr., aunts, Betty Stevenson and Zenobia Woodard; five grandchildren, Brett E. Miles, Jr., Jasmine C. Hynson, Dwayne M. Miles, Paris J. Littleton, and Taylor J. Jones; four great grandchildren and a host of relatives, friends and all of Indiana Avenue MBC family. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, at the House of Day Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 12:30 pm preceded by a 12:00 noon Wake, at Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 640 Indiana Avenue, Rev. Dr. John E. Roberts, officiating.
