Obituary for Jennie Virginia Abernathy (Wadford)

Jennie V. Abernathy, 95, of Toledo, OH, passed away October 12, 2015, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born June 15, 1920 in Ripley, Tennessee. She was a member of Greater St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church. Jennie worked several jobs before she and her husband, George, being the entrepreneurs that they were, managed to successfully own and operate their own grocery store. Jennie, at the age of 79, pursued another interest and received her certificate in Early Childhood Education from Owens Technical College where she completed 223 hours of training. She then worked for Harbor Behavioral before retiring at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Robbins Gregory and granddaughter, April Arnold Miles. She is survived by her daughter, Corlene (Carey) Price; sons, Michael (Thelma) Abernathy, George Abernathy Jr.; seven grandchildren; eight great grand children and a host of many loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted starting with the wake at 11 a.m. and funeral at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015, at Greater St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church, 416 Belmont Ave., Toledo, OH. House of Day Funeral Service.
