Obituary for Albert Aiken

Albert was born in Jasper, Georgia to Grady and Millie Aiken on November 3, 1947. Several years later, the family relocated to Toledo, Ohio where Albert attended Roosevelt Elementary and Robinson Junior High; graduating from Scott High School in 1966. He loved the “Bulldogs” and all of the family in the ten hundred block of Fernwood. Albert had many achievements in his life. He was the first African-American Mechanical Designer for Dana Corporation. During his 30 year career with Dana Corporation, Albert received awards for 10 patents. Retiring in 2005 provided Albert the time he needed to help others. He was an active volunteer with many local organizations including R.S.V.P (assistance for elderly), Hospice of Northwest Ohio and serving as a volunteer Firefighter Chaplain for the City of Toledo. Albert loved the Lord and his church family, whom he kept in prayer. In the weeks leading up to his passing, he continued to pursue what God would have for him to do next, believing that in his physical weakness, he could bring encouragement to others. Albert is preceded in death by his parents Grady and Millie Aiken, his brother, Grady Jr. and his son, Albert Jr. Albert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Peggie; children Alan (Lorie), Alicia (Chris), Alexis (Barry), Stephanie (Chris), Corey, Antoinette, Courtney and Zelda; sister Lola, niece Rosemary, twenty-three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, mother-in-law Betty, God children and a host of family and friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the surgical, ICU and rehabilitation teams at Toledo Hospital and UTMC as well as visiting nurses for their care. To our church family: your prayers and visits brought joy and encouragement when he needed it most.
